[Mindy waited many hours after Peej had left for her day job. She packed up necessary things, clothes, water, her favourite hat, food, knives...she'd have to stop by her secret stash for some guns. She wrote the letter slowly, thinking carefully on what to say. In the end she folded it three times, like an accordion, the way fancy people did, and stuck it in an envelope which she sealed with dabs of water. Then she wrote "Karen" on the front and left it on her surrogate big sister's pillow.]
"Karen,
I have to go. I like you, I really do, and I'm not leaving because of you. I'm leaving because I still have shit to do. I made a promise to my father that I would kill every one of those Ass-holes that killed my mother. If I am losing my powers that means I am running out of time. I can't sit here and let my powers fade away while they hurt more people.
This is something I have to do by myself. Don't try to look for me, Karen. You won't like what you see.
Thank you for everything, it was nice to have a friend.
-Mindy."

All the voices in the city filled her ears and she began to sift through them, searching for the voice she wanted to hear.
But there was nothing. And Kara had to face the fact that by this time Mindy could be out of the city or even the state by this time. Crestfallen but refusing to give up the woman moved on to her next option; she headed for the nearest greyhound building to start asking questions, calling her company as an afterthought to let them know she would be taking an extensive leave of absence and setting up the chain of command so they could continue to operate smoothly while she was gone.
